Due to virtual learning, my syllabus will look different. I'm choosing to use plays, short stories and poems that are easy accessible online. The concept and skills being taught will be the same, just different stories will be used. Thank you.
Amy Burton
Welcome to Cahokia High School. I'm very eager for this school year to start and to meet all our students-vertically and in person. My name is Mrs. Burton and I teach English I in the Freshmen building.. Please feel free to contact me throughout the school year if you have any questions or concerns about my class. Also, I'll be available from 12:00-1:00 daily if anyone would like a zoom meeting to discuss concerns. Weekly, I send emails home to inform parents about upcoming tests, quizzes and projects. Remember, you have the ability to check on your son/daughter's grades 24/7 in Skyward; So, make sure you sign up for Parent Access. Let's have a fantastic school year!
I began teaching in 2000 when I did my Student Teaching at Cahokia High school. After graduating from SIUE with my History and English Literature degree I was a permanent substitute teacher for Belleville district 201 and Freeburg District 70. In 2003 I took a more permanent job teaching at a private school in Clayton, Missouri. I worked there for 3 years before I looked for a school that was closer to home. I was hired at CHS for the 2006-2007 school year and have worked here for the last 15 years. I returned to SIUE in 2007 to earn my Type 75 administration degree and in 2018 I completed LBSI certification (through Mckendree) to specialize in learning and behavior strategies. Since I have degrees in History and English (with endorsements in: World Geography, Civics, Sociology) I have taught in both the English and the Social Science department.
On a personal level, I am the mother of two daughters, Danielle and Brooke. My husband and I have been married for 17 years and have lived in the area our entire lives. I enjoy spending time with family, boating, fishing, hiking and volleyball. My daughters play soccer and volleyball and these sports keep us very busy on the weekends. I truly love teaching and it makes me happy when students are successful and hone their talents and skills.
Why lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
